On the site of the old Double Oaks Apartments off Statesville Avenue, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Housing Partnership is developing Brightwalk.

The barracks-style 1950s development of 576 apartments in 165 buildings is being replaced with a mixed-use, mixed-income neighborhood of 786 homes and apartments, along with commercial structures.

The Stevenson Apartments abutting Statesville Avenue near LaSalle Street are part of the Partnership’s commitment to provide affordable housing on the site.

A small sampling of the dozens of federal, state and local leaders who played a role in the project’s construction spoke at this morning’s grand opening. Many more were present.
